Comenius Day 2020 (cancelled)

Date(s) - 28 March 2020
14:00 - 21:30

Grote Kerk

The 28th March is celebrated in the Czech Republic as the National Day of Teachers. On the same day, Comeniusdag is celebrated in the Netherlands. Both festivities are related to the birthday of Jan Ámos Komenský, the so-called “teacher of the nations”. This year’s festivities are going to be special as the year 2020 marks the 350th anniversary of Comenius’ death and burial in Naarden. Many international guests will come to Naarden not only to commemorate Comenius’ legacy, but also to see the opening of a new exhibition Mundo Comenii (The World of Comenius). On this occasion, Comenius Prize will be awarded to Tomáš Halík.

The program starts at 14.00

After the award, Mpho Tutu van Furth will give an annual lecture in honor of J.A. Komenského. Mpho Tutu van Furth is internationally committed to women’s rights and education for girls and young women.
